Alanah is an award-winning queer theatre director and dramaturg drawn to creating highly visual and thought-provoking experiences. 


Alanah graduated from the NIDA MFA Directing course (2018) and participated in an exchange at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art, Berlin. During her time at NIDA, Alanah collaborated with NIDA, National Institute of Circus Arts, Aboriginal Centre of Performing Arts, The National Theatre and was sponsored by Canon to create a music video for Triple J/Rage/ABC for May Lyn's award-winning music video ‘Soldiers’. Alanah’s dance work ‘Slay’ was shortlisted for the Sydney Festival (2018).

In 2018/19, Alanah relocated to Germany to enhance her directorial skills and was offered a scholarship (regieassistent) with the Berlin Opera Academy and participated in secondments with the Maxim Gorki Theater and Theatre Dortmund.

Back in Naarm, Alanah has worked with Antipodes Theatre Company to develop Are You Better Yet? By Sarah-Jayde Tracey with Mary Angley, and was a lead artist in the winter lab for the piece You Made Your Bed, Now Sleep in it (Antipodes Theatre Company). Alanah was an Associate Artist at Theatre Works (2020), and was a resident Dramaturg with the She-Writes Collective (2021 - 2023), and spent a year developing puppet skills in Lemony S Puppetry Puppet Lab (2022). Alanah was selected as part of the Performing Lines x Geelong Arts Centre residency to develop ‘Our Monster’s Name is Jerry’ with Amy May Nunn which will be presented in 2025.

Alanah has a particular enthusiasm for new work and has been the director/facilitator for Altar by Em Tambree (Abbotsford Convent Residency 2023), Legends (or the god killers) by Amy May Nunn and Murder, Murder Hair! By Dr Suvi Derkenne (Martin Lyscrites winner 2023). As a dramaturg, Alanah has worked on Cave of Spleen by Laura Collins (Theatre Works), Cygnets (Theatre Works) and Mandy’s Coming Out Peter Copeman (La Mama). Alanah is currently working on Numa and Karl and the extraordinary man he was by Em Chandler which will be presented in 2025. Alanah directed Vivian Nguyen’s debut work A Moment to Love and Isabella Perversi’s What Rhymes with Orange? Alanah was assistant puppetry consultant on Red Stitch’s - Wolf Play under Sarah Kreigler and assistant directed Tom Wright on ‘The Country Wife’.


Alanah works as an access consultant for Arts Access Victoria and has consulted with companies such as Chunky Move, Theatre Works, NGV and ACM. She has created over 50 access guides for Theatre Works.
